Founded in 1999, The Parkinson Alliance is a national nonprofit organization, in partnership with The Tuchman Foundation. It was formed to foster philanthropic activities to raise funds for the most promising Parkinson’s disease research that will help find the cure.

Prior to starting The Parkinson Alliance, Margaret and Martin Tuchman, participated with grassroots advocates around the country to help pass the Morris K. Udall Parkinson’s Research Act of 1997 that authorized increased funding for Parkinson’s research. The slow pace of the legislative process to release these funds motivated Martin to apply some rudimentary business practices to accelerate the flow of dollars into the hands of researchers and award them the funds necessary to compete effectively for larger National Institutes of Health grants. For the Tuchman’s, this aim is personal—Margaret was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease over 30 years ago.

The Parkinson Alliance is dedicated to raising donations through special fundraising events held around the country and is the umbrella organization responsible for the Parkinson’s Unity Walk and Team Parkinson.

The Parkinson’s Unity Walk is the largest single-day fundraising event for the Parkinson’s community which takes place each spring in New York City’s Central Park. Team Parkinson is a well known fundraising organization on the West Coast which began as an official charity of the Los Angeles Marathon and is growing by establishing additional race events in other major U.S. cities.

The Parkinson Alliance is also devoted to improving the quality of life in the PD community through informational means and by funding promising research for individuals with PD.  As a way of keeping the PD community connected and informed, Margaret Tuchman founded DBS4PD.org. This web-based neighborhood offers 1. patient surveys that obtain the "patient's perspective" and gives a "voice" to the individuals with PD, 2. current science reviews, 3. articles, 4. forums, 5. related health news.
